About

I'm Michelle MA, a designer driven by curiosity, compassion and dissatisfaction. I currently work as a Graduate Research Assistant in Sonification Lab at Georgia Tech. Graduated from HK PolyU School of Design in 2014 as a master student, I previously worked with Shimo.im - a startup in Beijing China, exploring and designing online real-time collaborative productivity tool. Since 2011, I have collaborated with various companies in Hong Kong and Beijing.

As a designer, I don't feel myself defined by the work I have done. I define myself by the work I want to do. I believe skills can be trained - personality is inherent. My personality is what separates me from others. Rather than getting awards, advancing status, or gaining accolades, I prefer to keep learning, continue challenging myself, and do meaningful things that matter.

My Design Philosophy - What is a good design to me

A good design sparks connections instead of isolations between people.
A good design brings clarity and delight, not complexity and burden.
A good design inspires people to explore instead of imbuing concepts.
A good design comes with integrity and will not manipulate users.
A good design cultivates habits but will not develop addiction.

  • Visioned and visualized key user experiences and use cases for Google’s 2019-2020 hardware products.
  • Identified unique value of each device in Google hardware ecosystem, defined 12 cross-product high-value opportunities, created detailed storyboards, and designed key user experiences and interactions.

  • In charge of design, development, user testing and evaluation of SWAN 2.0 Audio-Based AR Indoor Wayfinding System.

  • Led the design of the cloud-based multi-user collaborative productivity tool and led the endeavor in iterative evolvement.

  • Initiated the packaging refinement project and redesigned the product package that led to more than 50% cost reduction for material, manufacturing and storage.
  • Led the interactive retail system design and development project from ideation to implementation, played managerial role across multiple internal teams including design, development, testing, operation, marketing and sales.

UX Designer | Beijing Sensoro Technology Co Ltd, China [07/2014 - 07/2016]

  • Co-directed the R&D of Yunzi SCRM Platform, an online client resource management data platform, which serves more than 30,000 of enterprise clients.
  • Led the design of 5 major inter-organizational projects including Real Madrid International Champions Cup China Tour 2015 digital marketing campaign, CCTV interactive tourism platform, Internet of the Things, etc.
  • As core team member, contributed to the company growth from early stage with 17 employees to 70 employees with 20 million US dollar A-round venture capital.
